The Younglings

I am happily creeping into being a cranky, ole queen.

From popculturejunkies.com

But somewhere along the line, all boundaries, all limits have been dismissed and the younglings just keep getting "edgier," even though the edge was dulled a long, long time ago. I think that happened when the first Hot Topic opened, but I may be wrong. Or it could have been when every mother fucker on this planet got a tattoo.

If only they WERE edgy. Non-conformity in dress does not equal non-conformity in thought. Working with the Ute of Amerika every day, I find most of them to be incurious, conformist, comfortable and full of prejudice against anything beyond the end of their unfriendly noses. Grumpy old men and women in teen-aged bodies. Most have no quarrel with the Bush administration or the situation in Iraq because it doesn't directly involve them, just a few of their classmates who enlisted because they had no other options. They're neither surprised or outraged by revelations of stupidity in high places or media manipulation; they kind of like ebing manipulated. People left behind by the economy are just "losers" who don't understand the rules. (Actually, about the same percentage of kids have a conscience as when I was a tyke. These are, after all, the children of the narcissistic 70s generation: worst.parents.ever.
